Pupil Accommodation Reviews and Community Planning and Partnerships

Good Afternoon Parents,
Manon Gardner, Executive Superintendent of TDSB School Improvement/Operational Support has asked us to share the following letter with you:

Dear School Council Chairs/Co-Chairs:

Earlier this year, the Ministry of Education released new guidelines for Pupil Accommodation Reviews and for Community Planning and Partnerships (formerly Facility Partnerships).  To adhere to the new guidelines, the Toronto District School Board must update its policies.

I am writing you because these two policies may be of interest to parents.  The Pupil Accommodation Review policy deals with the review of groups of schools with low enrolment that can potentially lead to school closures.  The Community Planning and Partnerships policy concerns potential partnerships with external organizations in operating schools that have unused space.  Both policies affect the use of schools and therefore affect students.

As part of our consultation process, we are seeking feedback from staff, parents, and community members.  We would appreciate if you could help us reach out to parents by sharing this email with parents at your school.

Feedback can be provided in different ways:

•             Sending written feedback to accommodationreviews@tdsb.on.ca by January 29, 2016
•             Attending one of three public meetings listed below.

Shaughnessy School Council

What is School Council?

The Shaughnessy School Council is comprised of school staff and parent volunteers who represent YOU! We also raise funds to provide extra benefits for the school and the community, such as, additional school programs, subsidize school trips, provide new books and learning materials. We have helped build a computer lab and update computers and iPads regularly, we also purchase sports equipment and uniforms. We’ve bought and installed benches and trees for the playground and the outdoor school sign. Currently we are working on an Outdoor Educational
Classroom—a multi year school, council and community initiative and installation, and as always, we must continually update technology for all grades.

If you have an idea, would like to volunteer or wish to be heard on a topic, please join us at a monthly School Council meeting. Dates of meetings are sent home through the shuttle on the monthly calendar and are also advertised on the outdoor sign, located at the front of the school. Meetings usually begin at 6:30PM and school age babysitting is available.

Did you say keep the change...? Thank you, we do... But for good reason...
School Council volunteers are a small group of parents who are unable to provide change for 250 students, it’s simply too time consuming. We thank you in advance to provide the exact amount by cash or cheque. However,if you don’t have either we will happily allocate any overpayment amount as a direct donation to benefit the school initiatives we are working on. The Teachers and office are not permitted to provide change either, they are only to forward the money/envelopes through to School Council on your behalf. We appreciate your understanding.

Shaughnessy Spirit Days!

Your School Council raises funds to enhance our children's experience. Some items we sell are not about raising money, but are about creating good spirit and community within the school. Shaughnessy SPIRIT WEAR is one of these items. We want everyone to be able to have Shaughnessy Spirit Clothing for Spirit Days. In honour of Shaughnessy’s 50th Anniversary we have new designs for our SPIRIT WEAR. Order forms will be coming home in the shuttle soon!

Participatory Budgeting in Ward 33 Meeting Tonight!

Dear Parents,

Happy Last Day of School!

If you are looking for something to do now that there is a 2 month hiatus from volunteering at Shaughnessy Public School, please consider tonight's meeting:

Participatory Budgeting in Ward 33:
Project Development Meeting

Pleasant View Community Centre (545 Van Horne Ave)
Thursday, June 25, 2015
6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.
Dinner will be provided!

This PB Project Development meeting is your chance to turn your idea, or an
idea you've heard that excites you, into a real project proposal. One of the project proposals being discussed at tonight's meeting is to install speed bumps on Shaughnessy Blvd (South of Sheppard).

To get a project on the ballot, which everyone in Ward 33 will get to vote on in September, the idea must be turned into a project proposal, and must have a Project Champion -- that could be you!

Wondering about time commitments, logistics, etc? Come to Pleasantview on June 25 and find out more!
